With our current range of four different seismocorder models, we cover
several fields of interest from scientific research to industrial exploration
and exploitation. Fields with boundaries that at times are fuzzy, or
shifting altogether.
The Methusalem MBS for instance has been developed especially with respect
to the scientific research of carbon hydrates under the seafloor, which
requires aquisition of a broad signal spectrum. Meanwhile, this field of
interest has advanced from pure science to the beginning of industrial
exploration. Thus, according to the requirements of the exploration
industry, we developed the Geolon MES, which can process huge amounts
of data for comparatively short timeframes and is optimized for
all kinds of exploration, which is mostly active seismics.
The Geolon MLS on the other hand has been developed in cooperation with
scientist and is optimized for long term deployment in passive, seismological
environments in the deep sea. It can record for more than one year,
but has a limited bandwith compared to the MBS and MES.
Nowadays, long term measurements have become of interest for the industry, too.
Bassin monitoring has become a neccessity to get better assessments of
the capacity and of environmental changes over time due to industrial exploitation.
In this field, an additional requirement is broad band recording, which
directly led to our development of the Geolon MCS. The MCS combines the
low power consumption of the MLS with the broad band recording of the
MES. On top of that, it has a significantly smaller form factor and
more storage capacity than the MES. Which in turn made the MCS interesting
for the scientific community.
Progress in both science and industry constantly produce new requirements
for our systems and in some cases even produce completely new fields of
interest, like the tsunami detection, which took a new turn after the
2004 disaster in Indonesia. Flexible and quick reaction to changing
demands and research trends thus has become a neccessity for us, as
well as productive cooperation between all organizations and companies
involved. We are proud to be able to contribute to this progress, like
we have successfully done with our participation in creating the
tsunami
early warning system for Indonesia.
